Aurora Evaluation Process - Indoor 2025-26

Evaluation Process

If you are unfamiliar with the process, please read all the information.

  • You must be registered to attend evaluations.
  • Each age division has a separate tryout time.

U7D and U9D - Developmental Age Groups

  • Evaluations will be done in a 2-round format.
  • *NEW* Development Format;
    • Done in two 1-hour blocks that will comprise of 30min Skills and 30mins of Games to give an experience of what older players will go through.
  • Evaluations are held strictly for the purpose of creating equal teams of equal skill level.  Therefore, attendance at evaluations is not necessary, but is an extremely valuable experience for when players move into U11.
  • Based on availability of fields and time, Aurora will do their best to hold a couple of practice sessions before teams are finalized and before the season starts. This allows any players who have missed evaluations to be placed on a team, ensuring teams are equally created.
  • All teams in these age-groups practice together. Practices are led by Aurora's Technical Team.
  • Friend Requests will be accommodated to the best of our ability, while we still ensure teams are equally created.

U11-U19 Alliance and City Rec Leagues

  • Evaluations will be done in a 4-round format for Alliance and 1-round format for City. This allows evaluators to fully evaluate the large number of players in these divisions.
  • *NEW* Divisions in Alliance have been changed; A is now Premier, B1 is now Div 2, B2 is now Div 3
  • *NEW* All Evaluations will be completed using Skillshark app (Evaluators will be using electronic devices like phones, ipad, tablets, etc)
  • *NEW* Alliance Format;
    • Skills Session; 2-hour block going over but not limited to the Technical and Physical skills: First Touch, Passing, Dribbling, Agility, Speed, and Coordination
      • Players will take turns at stations doing a drill by themselves
      • Players will have two chances at each station to showcase their application of the given skill(s)
      • Players not actively participating will be resting waiting their turn
      • All Skills Sessions will end with small sided games (3v3, 4v4)
    • Game Session; 1-hour block going over but not limited to the Tactical and Mental skills: Positioning, Decision Making, Spatial Awareness, Work Ethic, and Communication
      • Games will be played in their in-season game format; 7v7 (U11) or 9v9 (U13-U19) *U13s may play 7v7 depending on numbers and/or for call backs*
      • Positions will be taken into account BUT players will be expected to play or rotate into different positions (including goalie)
    • Call Back Session; Another game based session with only some of the players in an age group called back if needed. Allows evaluators to review all the above skills once again to make sure nothing is missed.
  • *NEW* City Rec Format;
    • Done in two 1-hour blocks that will comprise of 30min Skills and 30mins of Games to give an experience of what Alliance players go through.
      • Games will be played in their in-season game format; 7v7 (U11 - U13 Div 2 & 3) or 9v9 (U13 Premier & U15-U19)
      • Positions will be taken into account BUT players will be expected to play or rotate into different positions (including goalie)
  • *NEW* Goal Keeper Format;
    • Done in 1/2-hour blocks that will be going through Goalie Skills not limited to: Shot Stopping, Ball Handling, and Distribution
    • Goalies are encourage to do both Player and Goalie evaluations regardless if you are part-time or full-time goalie.
  • Parents may observe the evaluations however, they should not interact with the players or evaluators in any way.
  • Aurora Soccer Club policy is that all players register and attend evaluations in their proper age group, as well any bio-banding option if approved.

*Please Note U11-U19*

  • If wanting to attend evaluations. Only athletes with a valid conflict reason will be allowed to miss the initial evaluation or callback date *Alliance Only*. Please submit rationale by email to registrar@aurorasoccer.ca if you are unable to attend, and the club will attempt to accommodate.
  • Players wishing to be considered for Alliance Premier must attend evaluations. Players wanting only Alliance Division 2 or 3 do not have to attend tryouts, but are still encouraged to attend to allow us to make the teams as even as possible.
  • *NEW* Friend Requests;
    • City Rec League: will be accommodated to the best of our ability, while we still ensure teams are equally created.
    • Alliance League: will NOT be accommodated, as teams are made based on individual ability and competitive integrity first. *We are looking into ways to keeping a team mostly together on a year long cadence more information will come before season start*
  • Players that don't attend evaluations with no notification will be initially invited in a lower division practice session(s) while an assessment can be made by our Technical team.
  • Players that wish to stay in the City league are still encouraged to attend tryouts. This will allow us to make city league teams as even as possible.

Tryout Attire

  • Players are required to wear shin guards and soccer cleats.
  • Players are NOT to wear wristbands, watches, jewelry or piercings of any kind.
  • Please bring a water bottle.
